Finance for Your Clients: The Harmonisation of Capital Markets

UntitledUntitled

General reporters: Jennifer Maxwell and Xavier Costa Arnau

In the “post” financial crisis era, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) continue to struggle to obtain finance. Although companies tend to resort mainly to their domestic markets when seeking financing, a more complex structure of financial products are handled by a complex, multi-country network of institutions. The current regulatory tendency is to foster harmonisation and improve transparency in cross-border transactions to restore investor confidence. Deeper and more integrated capital markets are aimed by the regulators worldwide in order to lower the cost of funding and make the financial system more resilient. At our session, we will look at and discuss both, the benefits but also the risks of capital markets harmonisation.
